Central Coast residents can book sleep studies at two dedicated clinics in Gosford and Wyong without heading to Sydney hospitals.
Sleep disruption has grown more common among shift workers and retirees along the coast, where long commutes and seasonal tourism add irregular hours. Local GPs report rising referrals this year as awareness of untreated apnoea rises after national health data showed higher rates of cardiovascular strain in regional areas.
The Central Coast Sleep Centre sits at 45 Mann Street in Gosford and runs studies six nights a week in a four-bed unit. Patients arrive at 8 pm, receive sensors for breathing and heart rate, then leave by 7 am. A second site opened last March at the Wyong Health Hub on Lake Haven Drive beside Tuggerah Lake, offering the same overnight tests plus daytime nap studies for shift workers from the nearby industrial estates.
Both locations accept referrals from any Central Coast GP and coordinate with the surf lifesaving clubs at Terrigal and Avoca for members who report fatigue during patrols. The Gosford site also runs a monthly education session at the Erina Library on sleep hygiene for cyclists using the Tuggerah Lake loop.
Medicare covers most of the $1150 fee when a GP orders the test for suspected obstructive sleep apnoea, leaving patients with an average out-of-pocket cost of $280 according to 2025 figures from Central Coast Local Health District. Results reach the referring doctor within ten days, often leading to CPAP machine trials at the same clinics.
Anyone experiencing loud snoring, morning headaches or daytime sleepiness should book a GP appointment first for a referral. The Gosford clinic phone line opens at 8 am weekdays for bookings, and the Wyong site accepts online requests through its patient portal.
