A full calendar of charity walks, fun runs and fitness challenges is set to energise Gosford, Terrigal, and beyond this winter.

Keen to lace up for a good cause? Over the coming weeks, the Central Coast is gearing up for a series of group fitness events ranging from high-energy fun runs to family-friendly charity walks stretching from Woy Woy to Terrigal. Registration numbers for this year’s major events are already trending well above average, organisers say, as local residents lean into winter wellness—and support community causes in the process.
The Central Coast has a long tradition of blending health with social good, but this season’s lineup comes as families and individuals look for engaging ways to boost their wellbeing outside the gym. According to Central Coast Council’s active living initiative, group exercise events are one of the best predictors of sustained physical activity, especially through the colder months. Local gyms report a 15% drop in attendance once the temperature dips below 12°C in July and August, making outdoor events all the more vital in keeping residents moving. "People are craving connection as much as fitness," says Sarah Pitman, project officer for the council’s LiveLife program. "Signing up for a walk, run or group challenge is as much about community as it is about cardio."
The calendar kicks off with the Terrigal Trotters’ annual Winter Solstice Run on July 13, setting off from The Haven carpark at 7am. Next comes the Rotary Club of Gosford North’s popular Tuggerah Lake Charity Walk on July 21, beginning at Saltwater Creek Reserve and winding 10km along the Tuggerah Lake cycleway past Long Jetty. New for 2026 is the Avoca Beach Surf Lifesaving Club’s "Sand and Sea Dash" on August 4, inviting kids and adults to tackle a 5km run and ocean swim combo. Entry fees range from $15 for children to $35 for adults, with proceeds channelled to local rescue equipment and youth mentorship programs.
Bookings are already open online for most events, with the Terrigal Trotters Run capping registrations at 400 participants this year, up from 300 after last July’s sell-out. The Tuggerah Lake Charity Walk expects even bigger numbers—last year’s event drew over 800 locals and visitors, raising $23,500 for homelessness support on the Coast. Meanwhile, the new Avoca event is projected to attract 250 entrants, with the surf club reporting a stream of first-time sign-ups from Bateau Bay, Kincumber, and Macmasters Beach.
For those worried about experience or pace, organisers are at pains to stress inclusivity. The Tuggerah Lake walk offers a short 4km turnaround for strollers and wheelchairs, and group warm-ups led by volunteer trainers from FitCoast Gym and the Gosford Running Mums Collective are free on-site from 6:30am. Additionally, early birds at the Avoca Sand and Sea Dash can attend a pre-race stretching session led by local physiotherapist Anna Levens on the sand at Avoca Beach. Registration for each event is available via the respective organiser’s website or at Central Coast Council’s “Get Active” portal, with discounted family rates offered until July 10.
If you’re looking to make new friends, set a fitness goal, or give back to your neighbourhood, these upcoming events promise an energetic—and sometimes sandy—pathway into the Coast’s wellness scene. And, amid rising local interest in group fitness, signing up early is the best bet; most events expect to hit capacity at least a week before their start. With every step, stride or splash, the community pulls a little closer together. For more information or to register, visit centralcoast.nsw.gov.au/active.
