Central Coast swimmers have increased visits to outdoor rock pools and ocean baths for lap training in the first week of July.

Winter conditions have pushed fitness routines toward protected coastal sites that maintain water access without relying on heated indoor facilities. Local councils report steady bookings for early morning lane time at several venues, reflecting broader interest in low-cost outdoor exercise options.

Established sites along the coast

Terrigal Rock Pool sits at the northern end of Terrigal Beach near the surf lifesaving club and provides a 25-metre marked course with steps for entry. Avoca Beach Rock Pool, positioned adjacent to the Avoca surf club on Avoca Drive, offers a similar length with concrete surrounds that shelter users from wind. Both locations connect directly to the Gosford to Terrigal shared path, allowing cyclists and runners to combine travel with their swim.

These sites fall under Central Coast Council management, which maintains lane ropes year-round. Swimmers also use the smaller rock formations near Copacabana for shorter repeats when tides permit access from the Bouddi National Park trailheads.

Practical details and access

Terrigal Rock Pool recorded 420 lap swimmers during the first six days of July, according to council visitor logs. Entry remains free at both main pools, with lane ropes installed by 6am each weekday. Council staff advise checking the tide chart published on the council website before travel, since low tide exposes the full length at Avoca while high tide can limit depth at Terrigal.

Those planning sessions should bring a towel and water bottle, arrive before 7am to secure a lane, and finish before mid-morning when families arrive. The council website lists updated maintenance closures for both sites through the end of the month.
