Local meditation classes, groups and apps worth trying
Central Coast residents are signing up for in-person sessions and digital tools to build steady mindfulness habits this winter.
How we reported this

More people along the Central Coast are booking spots in weekly meditation classes and testing phone apps after local community centres reported a surge in July enrolments.
Interest has grown because shorter daylight hours and cooler mornings have pushed residents indoors for structured routines that support focus and sleep. Groups tied to beachside venues and national park trails now offer guided sessions that blend breathing exercises with short walks along the Gosford to Terrigal path.
Classes and groups on offer
The Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club runs a Monday evening mindfulness group at 6 pm on Ocean Street, limited to 12 participants and open to beginners. Further north, the Avoca Beach Community Hall hosts a Wednesday morning sitting practice led by local instructors, with sessions starting at 7 am and followed by optional coffee at the nearby kiosk. Bouddi National Park volunteers also coordinate a monthly Saturday group hike with five-minute meditation stops at lookout points above Maitland Bay.
These programs cost between $12 and $18 per class, with the first session free for new attendees through the end of July 2026. A 2025 NSW Health survey found that adults who meditated at least three times a week reported 18 percent fewer sleep complaints than those who did not.
Apps worth testing alongside local sessions
Headspace and Calm remain popular downloads for Central Coast users who want guided tracks during commutes around Tuggerah Lake. A free regional version of the Insight Timer app now includes a Central Coast map layer that lists drop-in times at Gosford Library and the Erina Fair quiet room. Residents can combine one in-person class per week with 10-minute daily app sessions to keep costs under $25 a month.
Anyone new to the practice should check class times on the club or hall websites and speak with a local GP before starting if they have existing health conditions.
