From a new sculpture park at Erina to a pop-up jazz series in Gosford, here’s how to spend zero dollars and have a full weekend.

With household budgets still squeezed by another Reserve Bank rate hold on Tuesday, free community events have become the region’s go-to weekend plan. The good news? There’s more on offer than ever.
Art in the open air
On Saturday at 10am, Erina’s new Sculpture by the Lake officially opens at the grounds of the Laycock Street Community Theatre. More than 30 works by local artists such as Gosford-based ceramicist Megan Puls and Avoca Beach metal sculptor Tom Buckland will be installed along the foreshore for a four-week run. Entry is free, and the Erina North Rotary Club will run a sausage sizzle from 11am with proceeds going to Coastwide Youth Services.
If you’d rather stay closer to the water, head to Terrigal Haven. The Terrigal Skate Park hosts a beginner-friendly Learn to Skate session on Sunday from 8am to 10am. The program, run by the Central Coast Council’s Youth Development Team, provides free boards and helmets for under-18s. Bookings aren’t required, just turn up with a parent or guardian.
Live music without the cover charge
Gosford’s weekly Jazz in the Park returns this Sunday from 2pm to 5pm at Kibble Park, opposite the Gosford Regional Gallery. The series, now in its third year, features the Dave Wells Quartet from Newcastle. Organisers say average attendance has climbed from 80 people last January to more than 250 on a good Sunday. Bring a picnic rug. Dogs on leads are welcome.
Further south, the Umina Community Garden in Ocean Beach Road runs its monthly plant swap and music session from 3pm on Saturday. Garden co-ordinator Rose Killion said the July swap has already got 40 confirmed participants, plus a classical guitarist from Pearl Beach. Seedlings and cuttings are free to take. Any leftover plants go to the Peninsula Food Collective.
For families with primary-school-aged kids, the Tuggerah Lakes Library in The Entrance is running a free Minecraft Build Challenge on Saturday from 2pm to 4pm. Children must have their own device with Minecraft installed. Library manager Jason Goodhew told the Daily Central Coast that capacity was capped at 30, and the session filled within three days of being advertised. No walk-ins will be accepted.
Plan your Sunday morning
The Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club hosts a free community beach yoga session at 7am on Sunday. Instructor Sarah Cosgrove leads the one-hour class on the sand opposite the clubhouse, just north of the surf patrol flags. BYO mat. About 60 people attended the June session, according to club president Mark Wheelwright. The forecast for Sunday is 19 degrees and partly cloudy, ideal conditions.
If markets are more your speed, the Kincumber Neighbourhood Centre Farmers Market runs every Sunday from 8am to 1pm at 46 Kincumber Street. Entry is free. Stallholders accept cash and card. The market has operated for 22 years and remains one of the few in the region that doesn’t charge a gate fee.
Council transport data shows that free weekend events on the Coast have attracted an estimated 14,000 attendees across the first six months of 2026, up 22 percent on the same period last year. A council spokesperson attributed the increase to “a deliberate push for low-cost recreation options” following the cost-of-living pressure that has dominated local household budgets for the past 18 months.
Whatever you choose this weekend, leave your wallet at home. The Coast is putting on a show for nothing.
