What's Happening Right Now in the Central Coast Tech and Startup Scene
Local founders closed new rounds and staged product demos this week as accelerators in the Harbor District and along 5th Avenue pushed summer pilots forward.
How we reported this

Three Central Coast startups closed seed rounds totaling $8.4 million between July 8 and July 11, with two of the deals announced at a closed-door session inside the Harbor Innovation Center on Pier 9.
The timing lines up with OpenAI’s push into family accounts and a wave of productivity-focused hardware launches elsewhere, giving local teams a narrow window to test household and enterprise versions before fall investor meetings.
Teams from the Coast Startup Accelerator met at the center’s third-floor loft on Pier 9 while a separate cohort used the ground-floor demo kitchen at the Bayview Labs facility on 5th Avenue to run live tests of a sensor-driven inventory tool aimed at restaurants in the Marina District.
The Central Coast Tech Association’s mid-year brief, released July 11, recorded 47 active startups in its tracked portfolio, up from 39 at the same date in 2025, with average round size reaching $2.8 million.
Current Pilots and Venues
At Bayview Labs, one portfolio company is running a four-week trial with three Marina District cafes that began July 9; each site pays $1,200 for the hardware kit and receives daily usage reports through a shared dashboard. The same building hosts twice-weekly office hours run by the accelerator’s mentor network every Tuesday and Thursday evening.
Meanwhile the Harbor Innovation Center added a new 24-hour access tier on July 1 that costs $350 per month and already lists 62 badge holders, mostly early-stage founders who previously worked out of coffee shops along Seaview Boulevard.
Both locations sit within a five-minute walk of the Central Coast Light Rail stop at Harbor Station, which recorded 1,240 weekday tech-worker boardings in June according to transit authority data.
Next Steps for Founders
Founders who want to join the next Coast Startup Accelerator cohort must submit applications by July 25; the 12-week program starts August 18 and charges no equity for participation. Details and the online form are posted on the accelerator’s site, and walk-in information sessions are scheduled for July 16 and July 23 at 6 p.m. inside the Pier 9 lobby.
