Central Coast emergency services update stems from council administration and successive floods
The present framework for local response traces directly to the 2021 administration period and three major flood events since then.

Central Coast Council released its revised Emergency Management Plan on 10 July 2026 after a 14-month review process that began following the March 2025 flash flooding along the Wyong River.
The timing matters because the region remains under state oversight for certain planning functions after the 2021 administration ended in late 2023, and renewed federal funding for flood mitigation expires in December 2027.
Path through administration and flood recovery
During the administration period the council merged its separate Gosford and Wyong emergency units into one command centre at the Erina depot on The Entrance Road. That consolidation followed criticism in the 2022 NSW Audit Office report that had identified duplicated call-out procedures across the two former local government areas. The single centre now coordinates with NSW SES Region 2 and the Rural Fire Service district office at Kariong.
Three flood incidents shaped the latest document. The June 2022 event inundated 312 homes in the low-lying streets of East Gosford and Tumbi Umbi. A February 2024 storm produced record rainfall at the Mount Elliot gauge, while the March 2025 deluge forced evacuation of the Gosford CBD car park beneath the new waterfront development. Each incident prompted incremental changes to sandbag distribution points and early-warning siren locations.
Numbers that drove the changes
Council records show emergency call volume rose from 4,187 in the 2020-21 financial year to 7,914 in 2024-25. Average response time to priority-one incidents lengthened from 11 minutes to 14 minutes during the same period, according to the NSW Ambulance quarterly data released in May 2026. The new plan allocates an extra $2.8 million annually for volunteer training and radio upgrades, funded partly through the state’s Coastal Management Program.
