Central Coast locals are turning out in numbers for the new slate of July cultural programs that opened this week at venues in Gosford and Terrigal.

The timing follows the end of school holidays and the start of cooler evenings that push more people indoors for short runs of theatre and exhibitions. City records show 4,800 tickets scanned at Central Coast venues in the first week of July last year, and operators expect similar figures as new shows replace winter closures.

Two spots anchor the current options. The Gosford Regional Gallery on Donnison Street launched its coastal photography display on 5 July with free entry on Thursdays. A few kilometres south, the Avoca Beach Picture Theatre on Avoca Drive added a 7 pm live music series every Friday through August, with tickets at $28. Both sites sit within walking distance of bus stops on the Pacific Highway and offer late-night parking on adjacent streets.

Market and performance picks

Weekend markets at The Entrance Boardwalk run from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays and feature 35 stalls of local makers. The nearby Central Coast Conservatorium on Mann Street in Gosford hosts a chamber-music recital on 19 July starting at 3 pm. Advance bookings for that recital reached 180 seats by midday on 11 July.

Prices stay modest. Gallery admission is $12 except on free Thursdays. Market stalls charge between $8 and $15 for most items, while the Friday music nights include a $10 drink voucher with each ticket.
